LinksDAO Secures Spey Bay Golf Club in Scotland in High-Stakes Bid

LinksDAO, the community of golf enthusiasts aiming to revolutionize the “country club” experience, has won the bid to acquire Spey Bay Golf Club in Scotland. The acquisition represents a significant milestone for LinksDAO, which aims to change the way people think about golf clubs and access to the sport. The picturesque course, which was first opened in 1907 and sits on the stunning Moray coastline, was described by LinksDAO as “too special to ignore” and was secured for an undisclosed sum, believed to be around $900,000.

A Global Community on a Mission

LinksDAO raised approximately $11 million worth of Ether by selling more than 9,000 NFTs in just over 24 hours at the start of the year. The funds were intended to support the group’s quest to acquire a golf course somewhere in the world. Although the group initially targeted courses in the US, the Spey Bay acquisition represents an achievement that is no less significant. The move represents one of the most high-profile examples of a DAO selling NFTs to support the acquisition of a real-world asset that community members can use to participate in the purchase and management of the asset.

Digital Membership Cards See Soaring Sales Volumes

Membership NFTs have sold for up to approximately $9,600, according to CryptoSlam! data. Sales volumes for LinksDAO NFTs rose almost 100% over the past week, while overall, digital membership cards have generated more than $29 million in trading since their issue, also according to the site’s data. LinksDAO has more than 5,400 members, according to Golf Digest.

Reimagining the Country Club Experience

Jim Daily, Adam Besvinick, and 6th Man Ventures’ Mike Dudas founded LinksDAO in 2021, with the aim of creating the “modern golf and leisure club.” LinksDAO’s goal is to create a global community of thousands of enthusiasts, which will come together to reimagine the country club experience and create one of the world’s greatest golf clubs. The group’s focus on inclusion and accessibility is at the core of its mission to create a new type of club that is accessible to golf enthusiasts of all levels, rather than being limited to the privileged few. The Spey Bay acquisition is a major step forward for the group and a significant moment for the golf industry as a whole.
